Gong Ying

Gong is from Chongqing. She is an English teacher at a secondary school, and has been on her first trip out of China. After visiting Bristol, she has come up to Scotland to stay with Catriona and the Llanwarne family, and was happy to provide a story of her walk in Tiger Leaping Gorge in January 2004:

She loves climbing mountains, and says that Chongqing is a mountain city. She told us about another climb up a mountain (Huashan, in Shanxi province) at night time to see the sun rise, and showed photos of the thousands of steep steps to climb up. People say of this mountain, “There is only one way to go up the mountain”.

She says she put on weight on holiday in Yunnan. “You eat so much, it tastes good because it’s not got so much chemicals on it. The way they cook, even the soup is tasty. “Whenever your heart is relaxed, you will put on weight” – that is another saying in Chinese.”
