Summary
About 7-9 miles (11-15 km) east of Oswestry, across the North Shropshire Plain, lie a group of meres, or small lakes, close to the small town of Ellesmere. These are sometimes referred to as the "North Shropshire Lake District", and whilst this sounds rather grand they do make up an attractive area for visitors to enjoy.
We had a pleasant short walk around Colemere, including a section along the adjacent Shropshire Union Canal, with some attractive views and plenty of tranquility. One of the easier hiking routes on the site - but ideal for many walkers.
- I'll remember most walking alongside the canal exchanging greetings with people in their longboats
- The best bit was seeing the light across the lake through the branches of trees
- There were no worst bits, it was a very pleasant hike
- Worth visiting Whittington Castle on the way there or back (although we missed it!)
