We believe that Walking Stories is a bit different from other websites devoted to walking, so this page aims to answer some of the questions people have been asking as the site has been discussed and developed.
What sort of walks will be included?
The site will include any kind of walks, in towns and villages, countryside and coastlines, mountains and wilderness areas. It's not just for the hardened backpacker or mountaineer. Most people enjoy walks of one sort or another. Tell us about your favourite local walks, as well as the ones you enjoy on holiday.
As far as we are concerned, "walking" includes hiking, rambling, strolling, and trekking, or just wandering aimlessly! And some of the "walks" have been completed by running, but they are just as suitable for walkers.
Will there be a membership fee?
It's free to access the site and to register as a member. At one time we considered asking for a membership fee, but we are now planning to raise revenue through advertising and sponsorship.
Why aren't there walks for every country?
We have been building up content steadily, but need more people to contribute in order to extend the coverage. That's why we've provided new forms to make it easier to register and to contribute stories. Now it's up to you to help fill the gaps around the world.
If I send a story to Walking Stories, who has the copyright?
The Terms and Conditions for membership indicate how copyright is dealt with. You will share copyright equally with Walking Stories for the reuse of your stories and photos, and any other content you provide. If anyone pays fees to reproduce your material from the website, the income will be split 50:50 between you and Walking Stories.
How do I put together a story?
The form for contributing a story has spaces for you to provide a summary, key facts, the story, and your photos. You can write the story in whatever style you like, and make it long or short. The main thing to remember is that it's about your experience on the walk, and providing information and advice that might help someone else who might follow in your footsteps.
