Bill Cook on an expedition to the Sahara Africa
With the spread of global tourism, Africa is becoming more popular as a destination for hiking.
Morocco has been well-known for some time for the routes in the High Atlas mountains, whilst eastern Africa is similarly renowned for Kilimanjaro, the world's highest free-standing peak. Although on the equator, it has had permanent ice on the summit (although recently this has all but disappeared due to global warming).
More visitors to South Africa are also taking advantage of opportunities for walking, with Table Mountain perhaps the best known.
Our first photos of walking in Africa are from Bill Cook, an intrepid Scot whose kilt turns up in the most unlikely places as he takes on hiking challenges to raise funds for charity (see the Charities page).
