El Teide (3718m - 12,198ft), Tenerife, Spain
Although most people go to Tenerife to enjoy the sunshine, beaches and nightlife, the island has some magnificent volcanic scenery inland, culminating in the peak of El Teide, the highest mountain in Spain. It's a long and strenuous climb, although the starting point is already around 2300m.
- The most memorable aspect was the wonderful volcanic scenery
- The best bit was finally reaching the volcanic crater at the top
- The worst bit was the tiredness due to the altitude
- The most surprising feature was the big round "huevos del Teide"
- Advice to others - take plenty of water and take your time
- Make sure to get a permit, to avoid disappointment.
