Backmuir Wood, Muirhead, Angus (near Dundee)
This is one of many community woodlands in the UK maintained by the Woodland Trust. It's situated beside Muirhead village, just to the north of Dundee, and is a popular location for short relaxing walks especially for those walking dogs. A network of paths means there are routes of about 1-3 miles, taking from half an hour to an hour and a half. The trees are of varied species and ages, creating many different types of woodland scenery from stands of tall Scots pines to areas of slender young birches.
I had gone past many times on the road between Liff and Muirhead, but only ventured into the wood a year ago. I was captivated by the mix of woodland, the carpet of autumn leaves, and the views across the surrounding countryside - it's a delightful place to enjoy a pleasant stroll. I went back a few months later with my wife, in the spring, and we took an alternative route around to Liff and back along the road.

Disabled access? Although some sections of the path close to the road would be suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, I don't think the gates allow easy access for wheelchairs, and parts of the upper section are uneven passing over tree roots and between trees.
