Stuchd an Lochain (960m - 3150ft), Glen Lyon, Perthshire, Scotland
This is the story of an excellent, relatively easy and fairly short winter hike up one of the two munros overlooking Loch an Daimh, at the western end of Glen Lyon. The starting height is around 400m, so it's a shorter climb than most others, although the ascent was made trickier for us by frozen ground and large areas of ice on the track. Further up, it was an easy hiking trail to the top, and the clouds melted away to give us stunning views. This was the third walk I'd done with the Easywalking Group, and it was at least as rewarding as the other two (see below).
- It was most memorable for the sense of remoteness, far up Glen Lyon
- The best bit was when the clouds disappeared and the summit was suddenly in sunshine
- The worst bit was climbing up the icy track
- The funniest bit was the quick salsa performance
- Words of warning – this reminded us to take care of ice even when the weather turns mild
