Herning, Jutland: Town and countryside
Herning is a medium-sized town in Central Jutland with an industrial past (mainly in textiles) which is now an important location for conferences and trade exhibitions. Many people are therefore likely to find themselves there with just a few hours to spare between meetings. Others may be stopping off on a cycling holiday or staying longer, using the town as a convenient base from which to explore Jutland.
This story shows how you can make good use of an hour or two during a conference visit, exploring Knudmosen to the south of the town centre (with a longer circuit described in the second story).
This was a welcome opportunity to return to Denmark after a long absence, to be reminded of the peaceful relaxation which the country offers and the hospitality of its people. You can easily enjoy the pleasures of the town and the countryside on a walking route taking around an hour. It is also ideal for running and, by varying the route slightly, for cycling. Museums and shopping can be included on the section through the town.
- I'll remember most the rapid transition from the streets around the busy bus station to the peaceful woodland and heathland.

- A word of warning - don't try to cross the main Dronningens Boulevard at street level!
