Tromsdalen, Arctic Cathedral, Storsteinen (421m) and Floya (671m - 2200 ft approx)
Storsteinen is the hill that faces the city of Tromso across the sound, with the suburb of Tromsdalen lying in the valley of the same name, across the graceful bridge from the city centre. You can take the short steep climb of the hill, or take the cablecar from Tromsdalen, for some spectacular views of the city, the island and the mountains. Depending on the weather, you may continue the walk to higher points on the ridge. It provided me with a taste of arctic weather at midsummer. A few days later, it was like an upland park, busy with people!
