Bill Cook's story in pictures of his trip with a Scottish group of 18 hikers to Kilimanjaro in November 2004.
Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, with several routes which can be used. Bill's group used the Rongai route. Access to the mountain is controlled, and all groups need to be accompanied by a guide and porters - so a fair amount of organisation is needed unless you use one of the organised treks, as most people do. Because of the altitude, it's necessary to take several days to acclimatise on the way up, and to take plenty of equipment.
To get an idea of the range of companies who provide organised treks, just enter "Kilimanjaro" into Google!
