Ben Starav (1078m), Glen Etive, Scotland
We did this one with the Easy Walking Group, which has just passed 150 members. It was an absolutely stunning day – one of the best I’ve ever had in Scotland.
Ben Starav is a cracking hill at the bottom of Glen Etive – it’s not visible from the road. It’s a tough climb up the north ridge, you do it from sea level, and it must be about 3800 ft. It’s a slog to get up, and once on the top there’s a ridge, fairly narrow, with some nice drops but I wouldn’t go if I suffered from vertigo - there are some wee dodgy bits where you have to use your hands.
Then there are another couple of munros you can pick off to the east. The views are stunning looking down Loch Etive, and across to Mull. If you wanted to avoid the dodgy bits you would have to come back down the same way.
